Mothering the new frontier…

Day 42 – Spring 2020

Really, I should have started this sooner. What better time to work on an old blog than when you are in self-isolation due to what appears to be the end of the world as you know it. I mean, it’s not like I don’t have any free time – what with my one and three year old sons constant crying and attention seeking antics and the fact that before COVID* we made the decision to not introduce screens to them until they were older in order to help with their independent creative development….what a stupid idea right? Or is it worse that we have continued. Believe me, it crosses my mind every single day.

*This really is our new world – BC19 and AC19 – before COVID-19 and after COVID-19.

Day hundred and something… light years later…. Winter 2022

Well so much for restarting the new blog… lol… at the time, it was a good idea to begin again, but then we were consumed by the day to day craziness of having our family at home day in and day out with no where to go. It has been suffocating, stressful, painful – causing so much anxiety. Yet, at the same time, a few things have come to light – first, that if our marriage and family make it through this type of adversity intact, we are on pretty solid ground. Of course that means that we have worked through the challenges faced together, and come through the other side maybe a little stronger with only minor emotional scrapes along the way.

Second, that we get to spend loads of time with our kids while they are little, watch their quirky personalities develop and open up and come closer together (hopefully) as a family. I have seen so much care and support between our boys that will only create a stronger friendship for life.

Update: screens are being used, but still on the minimum and limited to: little bear, Thomas the train (original series), nature shows and Saturday night hockey.

Then we decided to have a baby…. post to hopefully come next week.
